Nationwide International Limited

Nationwide International Limited is a subsidiary of the Nationwide Building Society, based on the Isle of Man. It is a major provider of a diverse range of offshore savings accounts, which are primarily in pound sterling, euro and US dollar. These accounts are designed to meet the needs of British expatriates, but are also suitable for other banking and financial purposes.


A Brief History

In 1989, the island’s financial services regulating agency, the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission, released six licenses for different building societies to operate in the island. In May of that year, the then called “Nationwide” opened a branch in Douglas, the capital of the island. In its first two years, this branch offered savings account to the local population.

In 1990, Nationwide International set up a subsidiary called Nationwide Overseas Ltd. It developed a variety of savings accounts designed specially to allow depositors to take advantage of the Isle of Man’s offshore status. From then on, the company has grown to an international scale.

In 1997, the company changed its official name to Nationwide International for it reflects the true nature of the business. Today it offers services to customers in more than 160 countries across the globe. While the company’s head office is based in Douglas, there is also a representative office located in Gibraltar.
