Bank of Internet
Based in San Diego, California, the Bank of Internet (BofI) provides traditional banking and loan services to customers across the United States. What separates it from other banks is that everything is done entirely over the Internet.
A Little History
Being highly dependent on modern technology, the Bank of Internet is a very young financial institution whose birth can be credited to the genius of Gary Lewis Evans. The current president and chief operating officer of the company is considered an online banking pioneer. His beginnings can be traced back to the early days of Internet banking in 1994. A group of 20 organizers put San Diego on the map of online banking when they raised capital for a new bank, different than any other bank in the US.
Applying for an Account
One of the most advantageous features of online banking is that you don’t need to leave your house or office to make transactions. This means that you don’t need to worry about falling in line and waste time waiting. One of the things you can easily do online is to sign up for a bank account. The Bank of Internet, like most online banks, allow their clients to apply for any of their accounts without person-to-person transactions. All you need to do is visit their website and choose the account you desire. Here are the types of accounts that you can apply for:
-
basic savings
-
basic checking
-
boomer checking
-
freedom checking
-
student checking
-
senior checking
-
certificate of deposit
-
money market savings
-
equity loan
Once you have chosen an account, you will need to complete the online forms they display by providing information about yourself and your preferences. Once that is done, you will be given a set of instructions that you need to follow. After that, the bank will review your application.
Press News
As a customer, you need to know everything that involves your account and even the bank in general. That’s why you always need to be fed with news and other information about the happenings in and out of the bank. The Bank of Internet understands this need so they allot a page on their website specifically for the latest events regarding the bank. This is where any major change in rates, the management or the system is posted.
Should you have any questions or need any help about BofI, you can visit its official website. They have a comprehensive list of their products and services, rates and fees and updates.

I think it's good to try these smaller online banks just to have your money spread around. I might try Bank of Internet, but I'm not putting too much money in it, just in case.on 2008-10-12 at 19:47:41
I checked out their website, and the company seems fine. I wonder how they're holding out during this time of crisis? It looks pretty secure, but I'm gonna ask more questions first before I entrust some of my money to them.on 2008-10-06 at 23:57:15
So their name is "Bank of Internet"? That sounds kind of generic, lol. How come I've never heard of them before? This sounds interesting though. I think I'll check them out more.on 2008-09-23 at 01:09:37
How secure is this? I mean, if everything is done over the internet, won't there be a greater risk of people hacking into your account? Also, what's the official website?
