Other US Banks

The United States is home to many online banks offering financial services to millions of clients within and beyond its borders. Although many of the largest Internet banks are the online franchises of some of the standard banking giants such as the Bank of America and Wells Fargo, some are full online banks with no physical branches for person-to-person transactions. One of these is the Bank of Internet. Apart from that, here are some of the youngest online banks gaining tremendous popularity and growing base of customers.

Salem Five

Founded in Salem, Massachusetts in 1855, Salem Five Cents Savings Bank has a very long, rich history. The bank has survived the Civil War, the Great Depression and two World Wars but emerged strong and steadfast. This stability is one of this bank’s selling points. Salem Bank was one of the first American banks to open an online division. It offers a diverse range of business and consumer banking services, mortgages, investments and insurance products. All these are provided through its website.

Century Bank Direct

Based in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Century Bank Direct provides great banking products and services that are available 24/7 through their official website. This FDIC-insured bank takes pride in offering great products, good rates and excellent service. Through its website, you are promised to maximum security for your money, easy setting up of accounts, free checking, high interest rates on savings, and certificate of deposits with a high interest yield. You can open an account in less than ten minutes without leaving your house or office.

VirtualBank

Headquartered in Palm Beach, Florida, this FDIC-insured, federally chartered bank is the online subsidiary and one of the five business groups of Lydian Trust Company. It offers banking products and services to Americans nationwide. You can sign up for a savings or checking account, apply for a certificate of deposit, view banking rates and check out eMoney markets through this site.

Aside from these three, there are still countless online banks thriving in the US. Many are targeted to a specified market while others are open to almost anyone in and outside the country.

Smaller banks are very good for competition and all, but I think I'll stick to larger banks. Epecially now that the economy is slowing down, I think it's really dangerous to do business with smaller banks.
